What you are told before you sign for a loan in England is to change
The government has said it will be more transparent with prospective students in England, after a Treasury Committee report in July found loans had been mis-sold on a £200bn scale: the Department for Education and the Student Loans Company likened repayments to a mobile phone contract and did not explain that the terms can be rewritten at any time. It also says it will raise the Plan 2 repayment threshold for the first time since 2021 and reintroduce targeted maintenance grants. Nothing changes for graduates already repaying.
Dundee lecturers stop teaching for five weeks from the first day of term
Members of the UCU at the University of Dundee will take no lectures, seminars or tutorials until after 23 October, over the threat of compulsory redundancies in a dispute that began when the university announced a £30m deficit nearly two years ago. The university says it anticipates most classes will run as normal. Some academics warned students during freshers week that their classes might not be on, so ask your school in writing what replaces any teaching that does not happen.
