Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 April 2026

AnonFess (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the AnonFess platform at anonfess.com. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our service.

What AnonFess Does

AnonFess is a platform that allows university students to submit anonymous confessions which are published to their university’s Facebook Page. University administrators manage and moderate submissions before they are posted.

Information We Collect

From confession submitters:

  • The text content of your confession
  • Any image you choose to upload
  • Your IP address (used solely for rate limiting and spam prevention)
  • We do not collect your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information when you submit a confession

From university administrators:

  • Name and email address (provided during registration)
  • Facebook account information obtained through Facebook Login, limited to: your Facebook user ID, the list of Facebook Pages you manage, and a Page Access Token to enable posting to your chosen Page

How We Use Your Information

  • Confession text and images are stored for moderation and, if approved, published to the university’s Facebook Page
  • IP addresses are used only for rate limiting and are stored temporarily (up to one hour)
  • Administrator credentials are used to manage university settings and publish approved content to Facebook
  • Facebook Page Access Tokens are stored securely and used solely to publish approved confessions and read engagement data (reactions) from published posts

Facebook Data

When a university administrator connects their Facebook Page via Facebook Login, we request the following permissions:

  • pages_manage_posts — to publish approved confessions to the Facebook Page
  • pages_read_engagement — to read reaction counts on published posts for our Hall of Fame feature
  • pages_show_list — to identify which Facebook Page the administrator manages during the connection process

We do not access or store any personal data from Facebook users who interact with the published posts. We do not sell, share, or transfer Facebook data to any third parties.

Data Storage and Security

All data is stored on our web server and content delivery network (Bunny.net CDN for images). We use industry-standard security practices to protect stored data. Facebook Page Access Tokens are stored in our WordPress database and are only accessible to authorised administrators.

Data Retention

  • Confessions are retained for as long as the university account is active
  • IP address rate-limiting data is automatically deleted after one hour
  • Facebook tokens are stored until an administrator disconnects their Facebook Page

Data Deletion

  • University administrators can disconnect their Facebook Page at any time from their settings, which immediately deletes the stored Facebook token and page information
  • University administrators can request full account deletion by contacting us
  • Confession submitters can request removal of a specific confession by contacting the university administrator

To request deletion of any data associated with your Facebook account, disconnect your Facebook Page from the University Settings page or contact us at the email below.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Meta (Facebook) — for publishing content to Facebook Pages and reading engagement data
  • Bunny.net — for image storage and delivery
  • NSFWJS — a client-side image classification library that runs in the user’s browser to detect inappropriate images before upload (no data is sent to any external server)

Cookies

We use standard WordPress session cookies for administrator login. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

Children

Our service is intended for university students aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
