Reported antisemitic incidents involving students rose to 95 last year
The Community Security Trust, the charity that records antisemitic incidents in
the UK, counted 95 involving university students or staff in 2025-26, up from 83
the year before. That is down from the 272 in 2023-24 but well above the 53 in
2022-23. Abusive behaviour in person and online was the commonest kind; of eight
incidents of damage to Jewish property over the two years, five were in student
accommodation. Incidents can be reported to the trust as well as to your
university.
Councils in England are promised the power to take over homes left in disrepair
This applies in England. At the Labour conference on 29 September the prime
minister, Andy Burnham, said councils will be given the power to take control of
empty homes and homes in disrepair and bring them into public housing stock,
singling out landlords paid through the benefit system who spend nothing on
upkeep. The English Housing Survey puts the number of non-decent private rented
homes at a million. Nothing changes yet, so keep written records of every repair
you report while renting privately.
A quarter of final-year students told the regulator they had been sexually harassed
The Office for Students’ first sector-wide survey of sexual misconduct, answered
by more than 50,000 students, found 24.5 per cent of final-year undergraduate
respondents had experienced sexual harassment since entering higher education
and a further 14.1 per cent sexual assault or violence. Harassment was reported
by 33 per cent of women against 12.2 per cent of men. Of those harassed in the
past year, 13.2 per cent made a formal report to their university, and 46.7 per
cent of those who did called the response good.
