Funded places filled before clearing opens
Heriot-Watt will not accept Scottish applicants through clearing this year, having filled its funded places. Scotland caps the number of funded places for Scottish students, so once an institution reaches its allocation it cannot take more regardless of demand — which is the trade-off that comes with free tuition, and it catches applicants who assume clearing is open everywhere. Student finance explained covers the four nations.
Nine in ten students would recommend their university
The National Student Survey puts 89.8 per cent of Warwick students saying they would recommend the university. NSS results are published by course and institution every summer and are the single most useful published measure for applicants — the course-level figures are what describe your actual three years.
Banks start competing for the September intake
Two new student accounts have launched, one offering £100 in sign-up cash and another entry to a prize draw. With two months until term, the competition is beginning — and the rule from every comparison this year holds: the interest-free overdraft and how long it lasts after graduation are worth more than any sign-up offer. How to choose a student bank account covers the comparison.
