2/7/26: Oxford and Cambridge miss the top 20 for student reviews

Students rate their universities differently from the tables

StudentCrowd’s satisfaction rankings leave Cambridge and Oxford outside the top 20, despite Cambridge topping the Complete University Guide. Review-based rankings measure what students say about living and studying somewhere; guide rankings measure entry grades, research and outcomes. Neither is wrong, and the gap between them is the most useful thing about either. Making the most of university covers what you actually get out of it.

Arts and humanities, ranked, with a 28-point spread

QS subject rankings put Oxford at 97.8 for arts and humanities and Southampton at 69.6 — a 28-point gap within the same mission group. Subject-level rankings are the ones worth reading, because a university strong in one faculty is frequently ordinary in another, and you will study in one of them.

The student behind the gossip account

Anonymous pages sit outside university harassment procedures until someone identifiable is involved — which is why the question of who runs them matters.
