Applications for next year’s student finance are open
Student Finance England has opened full-time undergraduate applications for 2026/27. Two things matter about the date: you can apply before you have a confirmed place and change it later, and the deadline for a guaranteed assessment in time for the start of term falls in May — months before results day. Applying now is the single easiest way to avoid a September without money. Student finance explained covers the process.

Extra money for students with children or adult dependants
The application form for Dependants’ Grants is published for both 2026/27 and the current year. These are grants rather than loans — the Childcare Grant, the Parents’ Learning Allowance and the Adult Dependants’ Grant — they do not have to be repaid, they are means-tested, and they are among the most under-claimed support in the system. If anyone depends on your income, apply.

If your circumstances change mid-course
Forms are also published for students who take tuition fee loans only, and for changes of circumstance during a year — a change of course, of university, of household income, or of who you live with. Reporting a change late is the most common cause of an incorrect assessment and of money having to be paid back.
