What is everyone’s favourite piece of UEA lore? Mine is that in the 1980s the then Soviet Union sent a spy posing as a student to determine whether our beloved Sainsbury Centre was a secret nuclear facility as “nobody would design an art gallery that ugly”

I graduated in 2022 and used to love this page, but time passes and the things you love change. Perhaps I was clinging on to the nostalgia? But I realise 4 years on from graduating the "confessions" on this page seem like the complaints of children running to their parents to tell them something trivial. It's the same type of feeling as when you look back at being in year 11 and realise how young you were but at the time, you felt like you were all grown up.

The last thing I'd like to leave is a note on degree classifications. People say degrees are a tool - they are. But you have to know how to use a tool in order for it to work regardless of the quality.

I know people from my time in uni with firsts and masters and people who barley scraped by and they are all doing equally well. I also know people who didn't go to uni, they don't have £60k or so in debt and are higher earners than anyone I know with a degree.

Stop worrying, try your best and drink every second in beacuse before you know it, you'll have gone from being dropped off at your accommodation on your first day, to graduation in the blink of an eye and would do anything to go back to being an intimidated fresher. I speak from experience.

TW: suicide

A year and a half ago I told my friends and family that I was actively suicidal, with a method, location and motivation to, all explained. The motivation was explained and everyone understood why what was motivating me was doing so. They didn’t support, but they understood why I’d want to escape my situation.

Cut to 18 months later, my situation hasn’t changed, and I still carry on my person every my “way out” ready to go at any point, should my situation call for it.

In 18 months not 1 of my friends or family have made the effort to travel to Norwich to see me. Not 1, despite repeated requests and their full knowledge of my situation.

What I’ve learned. No one cares, at least not enough to make the effort to come see me. No one. This is why men don’t talk about our mental health. When we do, or at least when I have, nothing. No one comes, no one calls. 1 man kill’s himself every minute worldwide. In the uk 80% of suicides are men. What is the point in us talking about it to someone if we’re met with…..nothing, like I have been. We need to do better, for anyone going through this.🖤

Buzzballs are DISGUSTING and I'm convinced people are just pretending to like them because they're popular. They taste like burnt plastic and did not get me drunk nearly enough for the amount of hungover I feel. Never again will I have them hyped up to me that level again. Wtf is this hate for 2:2s...

-a 2nd year who got all 2:1s, but a 3rd dragged whole grade down bc I was soo unwell for months.


Worked my ass off when I was healthy enough to do so, but one module and one 3rd and my whole grade changed.

Who cares anyway? We're all needing with a degree and life skills from uni!!

I HATE that the uni is so pro Ai; using it to write everything, down to exam questions. They’re also anti AI when it comes to writing your work, I get so much anxiety thinking I’ll get flagged for it knowing I haven’t used it

I can't say how sad I am to hear of your pain. I spent many years supporting a suicidal friend who tried so very hard to push against these terrifying thoughts. They were the most exceptional person I ever met - kinder and more empathic because of their experiences. They had a lot to offer the world but ended their life because of feeling their family didn't care, despite having friends who really tried hard to fill the gaps. All I can say is that they regretted their decision to end their life but unfortunately didn't receive the medical care they needed in time. There isn't a day in my life where I don't think of them and wish I'd been able to take action that saved their life. It hurts all the more knowing that in the end, they didn't really want to die - they were just in such awful pain.

I want to let you know that you definitely offer the world more by being here and you are deifnitely not alone. There are so many people who understand your pain, and I'm so sorry that your friends and family do not see it. If there is any way you can access groups to talk about this, I promise you will meet new REAL friends who care and understand you.

Please do try to keep going and put what energy you have into finding others who understand you. You are a really wonderful person who brings something special and unique to the world, even if its hard to know that at times.

Does no one at uea want to change the graduation gowns 😔, not even the design but the colour like pleaseeee why blue and black cap why can’t it all be black.
