“Routinely hiding signs of their identity”
Jewish students have told the BBC that antisemitism has become normalised at UK universities and that they routinely conceal signs of their identity on campus. It follows survey findings in April that up to one in five students would be reluctant to share a house with a Jewish student. Universities are required to have harassment procedures; what students describe is a climate those procedures do not reach.
Another record clearing expected
Universities are preparing for record numbers through clearing again this year as results day approaches. Clearing is now a mainstream route rather than a fallback, courses at selective universities appear in it, and the preparation that matters is a shortlist and a phone charged before 8am. Moving to university covers what follows an offer.
