Some borrowers are being contacted about errors in what they owe
The Student Loans Company is writing to some Plan 2 customers about corrections to their loan balances. If you receive one of these letters, check the revised figure against your annual statements and your payroll deductions, and use a subject access request if the explanation does not add up. Corrections can go in either direction. Student finance explained covers how balances work.

Half of work experience bursary applicants turned down
Applications to a university work experience bursary have risen so sharply that nearly half are being rejected, as students take unpaid internships in a tightening graduate market. Bursaries of this kind are what make an unpaid placement possible for anyone without family support, and demand outstripping them is how work experience becomes a class filter. Internships and work experience covers the funding that exists.
The four nations’ student finance, compared
The Student Loans Company has published its comparison of student loans across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to financial year 2026, alongside the Scottish figures. It is the clearest single source on how differently the four systems work — useful if you are choosing where to study or explaining to family why the numbers differ.
