Where harassment is reported most, and on which courses
Analysis finds sexual harassment more than twice as prevalent at England’s most selective universities, with hotspots on courses requiring the highest entry grades. Higher reported rates can reflect better reporting as well as more incidents, but the course-level concentration is harder to explain away. Universities must have a harassment procedure under the regulator’s conditions; asking what yours does with a report is a fair question.
An AS-level maths paper cancelled after questions leaked
Cambridge’s exam board has cancelled an AS-level maths paper after the questions leaked, and last week’s sitting will not count towards final grades. For students it means a paper sat under exam conditions has been voided; awarding bodies handle this by discounting the unit, and any university offer based on a predicted grade is unaffected.
The skills minister tells universities to prove their local value
Jacqui Smith has warned universities against prioritising cashflow and “bums on seats” over quality, saying they must demonstrate value to the communities around them. Coming from the minister, it signals where funding conditions are heading: towards local impact measures rather than research or recruitment volume.
