Trinity Hall sets out its case
The Cambridge college at the centre of this month’s admissions row has defended its policy of approaching students at private schools, having introduced it on the argument that privately educated applicants should not be ignored or marginalised. The row has run for three weeks and the substance for applicants has not changed: the policy concerns who is approached, not who is admitted, and admission is decided on the application.
Town and gown, in a city where the split is sharp
A piece on the friction between Lancaster’s residents and its students — noise, rents, the sense of a city reorganised around an institution — written from the student side but fair about why locals feel what they feel. Worth reading anywhere the same argument runs, which is most university cities. Living with housemates covers the part you can control.
